The Conference
The international conference on Engineering and City
Development will focus on important engineering issues
relevant to city development.
This is a refereed conference aims at bringing together
researchers, engineers, planners, architects and other
professionals, consultants and decision makers to share
and exchange knowledge on new discoveries. Also to
present and debate information, knowledge, new ideas
and techniques which are relevant to the themes of the
conference. Selected papers may be published in the
Islamic University Journal.
The Organizing Committee is pleased to invite you to the
Conference to present a paper and participate in the
conference sessions. This will be an opportunity for you
to make important contacts with other professional
colleagues in various fields both regionally and
internationally.
Themes
1. Housing: Financing, cost reduction, institutional
structure, strategic planning and polices.
2. Construction Industry: Construction technology and
materials, design methods for structures, economic
impact and project management.
3. Infrastructure: Planning and management, decision-
making, and lifecycle (design, construction, operation,
maintenance and reconstruction).
4. Rehabilitation of Cultural Heritage: Rehabilitation
techniques, preservation options, planning and
polices, public- private responsibilities and finance.
5. Environment Aspects: Protection, biodiversity,
environment impact studies.
6. Urban Planning Strategies: Physical, socio- economic
and land use planning, architectural topography, urban
development and sustainable planning & architecture.
7. Regulations and Legal Issues: building regulations,
arbitration, codes and standards.
Exhibition
A Construction Industry Exhibition will be held
concurrently with the Conference. For detailed
information please refer to Asst. Prof. Muhammed Abdati
(muhammet@ mail. iugaza. edu).
Language
The official language of the Conference is English
however papers in Arabic are also permitted.
Call for Abstracts
Authors are invited to submit up to 300- word abstracts
type written in double spacing on single side of white A4
size papers by September 23, 2002. Both abstracts and
papers will be reviewed. You can email the abstracts at
iugconf@ mail. iugaza. edu or have on- line submission at
the Conference website: www. iugaza. edu/ iugconf
Important Dates
1. Deadline for abstract submission: Sept. 23, 2002
2. Notification for abstract acceptance: Nov. 27, 2002
3. Deadline for paper submission: March 24, 2003
4. Notification for paper acceptance: June 25, 2003
5. Final conference program: July 23, 2003
6. Deadline for early registration: Aug. 27, 2003
