Professor of Experimental Quantum Optics / Photonics

Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) of Experimental Quantum Optics / Photonics

The Department of Physics at ETH Zurich (www.phys.ethz.ch) invites applications for a Professorship in Experimental Quantum Optics / Photonics.

The Department offers a stimulating environment in quantum optics and electronics, experimental condensed matter physics as well as in theoretical physics, and provides first-class experimental infrastructure. While outstanding candidates at all levels will be considered, preference will be given to applicants at the assistant professor level.

The candidate should have a strong as well as sustainable research program in the fields of quantum optics and/or photonics. Teaching duties involve the physics curriculum at the undergraduate level and advanced courses in quantum optics and/or quantum electronics in the Master's program. He or she will be expected to teach undergraduate level courses (German and English) and graduate level courses (English).

Assistant professorships have been established to promote the careers of younger scientists. A generous funding package is available for this post. The initial appointment is for four years with the possibility of renewal for an additional two-year period and promotion to a permanent position.

Please submit your application together with a curriculum vitae, a list of publications, and a brief statement of present and future research interests to the President of ETH Zurich, Prof. Dr. Ralph Eichler, Raemistrasse 101, 8092 Zurich, Switzerland, no later than May 31, 2009. With a view toward increasing the number of female professors, ETH Zurich specifically encourages female candidates to apply.
