Professor of Magmatic Petrology

The Institute of Geochemistry and Petrology at ETH Zurich (www.erdw.ethz.ch) invites applications for a full professorship focused on magmatic processes on a global scale. The new professor is expected to develop an outstanding field-oriented research program in the broader area of magmatic petrology, which may include but is not limited to the formation of magmatic series including their volcanic systems, large scale differentiation processes, the secular evolution of the Earth's crust and mantle, the deep carbon cycle, and potential interactions between magmatism/volcanism and the Earth's surface such as the rise of oxygen or mass extinctions, or any other process orientated research program.

The chair comes with sufficient resources to establish a significant research group and will have full access to all the state-of the art facilities in the institute. The new professor and his group will be expected to teach undergraduate level courses (German or English) and graduate level courses (English) and lead an attractive field training program including excursions and student projects.

Please apply online at www.facultyaffairs.ethz.ch. Your application should include your curriculum vitae, a list of publications, and a statement of your research and teaching interests. The letter of application should be addressed to the President of ETH Zurich, Prof. Dr. Ralph Eichler. The closing date for applications is April 30, 2011. With a view towards increasing the number of female professors, ETH Zurich specifically encourages qualified female candidates to apply.
