Professor of Physical Activity and Health

The Department of Health Sciences and Technology (www.hest.ethz.ch<http://www.hest.ethz.ch>) at the ETH Zurich invites applications for the above-mentioned professorship. The research of this professorship should focus on measuring how physical activity impacts on human physiology in order to restore or maintain health. This can include a variety of methods such as system's physiology, molecular approaches, (epi)genetics, medical imaging, and performance measurements. One essential aspect is that the research addresses questions relevant for humans - be it healthy individuals, patients or athletes, ranging from young to old age. The successful candidate possesses high visibility in his/her research field and has an excellent track record in attracting research funds at the national or international level. The new professor is expected to bridge the gap between fundamental research and applications in humans, which can include clinical trials. There should be a tangible link to one of the strategic research areas of the Department. The successful candidate is expected to have a strong background in exercise physiology, sport medicine, or related disciplines. He or she should be an enthusiastic colleague with a clear research vision and the ability to lead a research group. Interdisciplinary collaborations with clinical and basic science groups are expected. Additional prerequisites are a strong motivation and commitment to student education and teaching.

The new professor will be part of the Institute of Human Movement Sciences and Sport and is expected to develop the associated major programme that is part of the Health Sciences and Technology master and/or the physical education teacher training. The professorship will be embedded in the Department's programme in Health Sciences and Technology and will be expected to teach both undergraduate (mainly German) and graduate level courses (in English).
