Announcement
The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and the Interdisciplinary Centre for Gender Studies at the University of Berne (ICFG) are organizing an

International Conference on Gender, Land & Sustainable Development
5th June 2014, 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.
at the University of Berne

Pressure on land is growing. In many rural societies land is the basis for food security, water, wellbeing and sustainable livelihoods. Therefore, land is a key issue for poverty reduction and sustainable development. However, access to and ownership of land is closely linked with gender. Women's access is often severely restricted, with less than 20% of all landholders worldwide being women. Long-term efforts for gender equality in land issues in development cooperation have only had a modest impact so far.

The SDC conference will highlight this current and controversial topic in two keynote speeches of

Sabine Pallas, Programme Officer Women's Land Rights and Resource Mobilisation at International Land Coalition ILC, Rome
and Marie Monimart, Rural Sociologist and Fellow Researcher at the International Institute for Environment and Development IIED, London

Different perspectives on gender, land & sustainable development will be analysed in four workshops:

* Gender & Food Security: Marie Monimart, IIED and Tina Goethe, Bread for all

* Gender & Climate Change: Lorena Aguilar, ICUN and Patrick Sieber, SDC

* Gender & Water: Sascha Gabizon, WECF and SDC expert on water

* Gender & Resource Conflicts: Silja Halle, UNEP and Annemarie Sancar, KOFF/Swisspeace

In a concluding panel session representatives from the SDC, the University of Berne, the Swiss women's farmer associations and the civil society will discuss key issues on gender & land from a South and North perspective in view of the ongoing global debates on sustainable development in the post-2015 agenda.

Conference languages are English and French.

Annonce

Sabine Pallas, Programme Officer à l' International Land Coalition ILC, Rome

Kind regards,
Meilleures salutations,
