Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) of Landscape Architecture

The Department of Architecture (www.arch.ethz.ch <http://www.arch.ethz.ch> )
at ETH Zurich invites applications for the above-mentioned position. The
assistant professorship is located at the Institute for Landscape and Urban
Studies (www.lus.arch.ethz.ch <http://www.lus.arch.ethz.ch> ).

The department is searching for a landscape architect with exceptional
potential to advance the discipline at the highest level. The candidate will
develop a research and design agenda grounded in the contemporary theory of
landscape architecture. The position emphasizes innovative and
interdisciplinary research topics addressing the climate emergency and
societal changes. Innovative research projects can emerge from
collaborations within the department and throughout ETH Zurich, including
the Departments of Environmental Systems Science (D-USYS) and Civil,
Environmental and Geomatic Engineering (D-BAUG) as well as Humanities,
Social and Political Sciences (D-GESS). The assistant professor will have
access to existing research infrastructures such as the Large-scale
Virtualization and Modeling Lab (LVML). Close collaboration with the chairs
at the Institute for Landscape and Urban Studies is of particular
importance.

The future assistant professor will contribute to the teaching in the
Master’s degree programme in Landscape Architecture as well as in the
Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programme in Architecture. Teaching will
focus on design studios and basic courses. The successful candidate will
supervise doctoral students and contribute to the doctoral programme in
Landscape and Urban Studies.

The new professor demonstrates an independent position supported by
publications of international relevance. Candidates are expected to have
experience in developing and managing design research projects and convince
with their pedagogical approach. They should have a clear position towards
the integration of new digital technologies in the productions of landscapes
and environments. Additional qualifications include a university degree –
ideally with a doctorate – in landscape architecture or related fields.
Competence in leading a research group and contribution to the development
of the Department of Architecture beyond the boundaries of the discipline
are expected. The language of instruction may be in German or English.

Assistant professorships have been established to promote the careers of
younger scientists. ETH Zurich implements a tenure track system equivalent
to that of other top international universities.

ETH Zurich is an equal opportunity and family-friendly employer, values
