 direct modulation. The professor is expected to provide leadership in the design, characterisation and application of novel biomaterials for the use in regenerative medicine, with a specific focus on engineering solutions to control the host response.

<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><span lang="EN-GB" style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Applicants should have a strong background in immunology/immunoengineering, as inflammation is considered an over-arching factor governing
 the effective function of biomaterials, especially to support de novo tissue generation. Elucidating the processes governing activation of the innate host immune response by biomaterials will provide targets for material modification for eventual application
 in new therapeutic treatments. The successful candidate has a deep knowledge of the interplay of biomaterials, systemic factors and cellular pathways governing foreign body response. A demonstrated expertise in the selection and/or modification of biomaterials
 and application of immune response control in the context of guided tissue regeneration are key qualities for the position. Proven excellence in the use of novel model systems would enhance the applicant's profile, for example bioreactor systems and organ-on-chip
 models for the study of systemic interactions and downstream effects and/or large-scale computational biology methods. At the assistant professor level commitment to teaching and the ability to lead a research group are expected.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
