Research areas include, but are not limited to, the impact of viruses infecting bacteria, archaea or eukaryotes; the biology of their hosts at the organismic, cellular, or molecular level, or within microbial communities; the influence of persistent virus infections on heterologous immune defense; the reciprocal interaction of host endogenous retroviruses / retroelements with commensal bacteria; and/or the identification, characterization and application of new viral defense mechanisms or their applications in bioengineering.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal style='text-align:justify;punctuation-wrap:hanging'><span lang=EN-US style='font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Arial",sans-serif'>The professorship will be embedded in the Institute of Microbiology (IMB) and be fully integrated into its diverse, interactive, and collaborative research environment. The position offers outstanding scientific opportunities to participate in interdisciplinary research projects, and includes membership in the National Centre of Competence Research (NCCR) Microbiomes (<a href="https://nccr-microbiomes.ch">https://nccr-microbiomes.ch</a>). It will be part of the Life Science Zurich Graduate School, a well-established platform for teaching and research and with a network of research laboratories in the areas of microbiology, immunology, virology and related disciplines.
