1. What is the background/history/justification/advantage for the
       various 'transport' protocols ?

smtp, ftp, http, ppp & etc.?  Some background, history and 
justification is covered in the RFCs.  Advantages are mostly 
discussed when someone proposes an improvement on an

2. How would I use n-o to fetch http://--.tar.gz ?
