Why does functional programming get credit for piping?
wasn't unix, an imperative, procedural system, more of the piping
originator? Or did lisp originate piping?

Since piping modifies data and has state, I don't see it as functional, I
see it is side effects imperative. Whatever functional programming is
anyway, no one really knows. I know that my procedural programs function
very well!
