I see.
Would you please explain how you expect that archiving system to work?
What is your preferred input, what shall be the output.
I could imagine that an simple solution (appending a version number to the
file) is not what you expect, right?

Notepad?  Not mentioned in my message.  

The subject of my message was "A server allowing revisions 
to source Texts."  The objective is to find a way to 
archive the source files for an Oberon workstation so 
that revisions can be incorporated and published efficiently.  
The primary audience comprises Oberon workstations.

Web browsers comprise a possible secondary audience.  If a 
Web browser can display an Oberon source legibly, whether 
from a file or from a communication stream, is that 
objectionable?  Why?

I don't understand how that pertains to the objective.
