Professur für Mechanik 

Die Aufgaben in der Lehre umfassen die Beteiligung am Grundlagen- und Vertiefungsunterricht in Mechanik an den Studiengängen für Maschinenbau und Verfahrenstechnik, Bauingenieurwesen sowie Elektrotechnik. Im Vertiefungsunterricht stehen die theoretischen Grundlagen der Mechanik sowie ihrer Anwendungen auf konkrete Probleme im Vordergrund. Die Forschung hat ihr Schwergewicht in der Kontinuumsmechanik unter besonderer Berücksichtigung von Stoffgleichungen, deren Implementation mittels numerischer Methoden und Anwendung auf konkrete Probleme. Mögliche Schwerpunkte liegen  z.B. im Bereich der Modellierung von biologischen Materialien, der Modellierung von Eigenschaften in Abhängigkeit von Herstellungsprozessen oder der Verbindung von  Nanomechanik und Kontinuumsmechanik.

Kandidatinnen und Kandidaten haben sich neben einem abgeschlossenen Hochschulstudium über eine mehrjährige erfolgreiche Forschungstätigkeit und die Befähigung zur Lehre im angesprochenen Bereich auszuweisen. Weiter wird der Wille und die Fähigkeit zur Zusammenarbeit mit Kolleginnen und Kollegen innerhalb und ausserhalb der Hochschule sowie mit der Industrie vorausgesetzt.

Professor of Mechanics

The Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering at ETH Zurich invites applications for a Professorship in Continuum Mechanics at the Full or Associate Professor level. 

The candidate should develop an exceptional research program with a particular emphasis on the development of constitutive equations and implementation on mechanical systems using modern numerical methods for specific applications. Possible focus areas are: Modeling of biological materials, modeling of manufacturing processes, or the combination of nano and continuum mechanics. Teaching duties include the participation in both introductory and advanced courses in mechanics for students of the programs of Mechanical and Process Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Electrical Engineering and Information Technology. Advanced courses focus on the basic principles of continuum mechanics and their application to concrete problems. The new professor will be expected to teach undergraduate level courses (German or English) and graduate level courses (English).

Apart from a PhD degree, the successful candidate must have an excellent track record in research and teaching in the above mentioned field. Furthermore, the willingness and ability to collaborate with colleagues in and outside of ETH Zurich as well as with the industry is a prerequisite.
