Assistenzprofessur  für Sustainable Building Technologies

Das Departement Architektur der ETH Zürich (www.arch.ethz.ch) besetzt auf das Frühjahrssemester 2010 eine Assistenzprofessur in "Sustainable Building Technologies". 

Im Rahmen des Bachelor- und Masterstudiums Architektur vermittelt die Professur theoretische Grundlagen, methodische Kenntnisse und fachspezifisches Wissen, basierend auf neuesten Erkenntnissen auf dem Gebiet des nachhaltigen Bauens. Schwerpunkte  des Unterrichts sind u.a. Systembetrachtung der Gebäudetechnik, die Vernetzung der Komponenten (Materialien, Gesundheitsaspekte, Sicherheit), die Integration von Flüssen verschiedenster Art (Energie, Wasser, Abfall etc.) sowie die Einbindung der Gebäudetechnik in den Planungs- und Bauprozess. Erwartet wird hohes Engagement in der Vernetzung von Entwurfs- und Fachstudium sowie die Mitwirkung am Doktoratsstudium.

In der Forschung ist das gesamte Fachgebiet weiterzuentwickeln. Die Assistenzprofessur orientiert sich dabei am Verantwortungsbereich des Architektenberufes, der Baupraxis und dem Entwicklungsstand der Bautechnologie. Forschungsschwerpunkte sind die LowEx-Theorie sowie die Anwendung des in diesem Bereich vorhandenen Wissens auf dezentrale LowEx-Systeme, die Optimierung des Betriebs von technischen Anlagen durch neuartige Systeme, die konstruktive Praxis ebenso wie die Entwicklung architektonischer Strategien unter Berücksichtigung der zunehmend komplexer werdenden Anforderungen der Bauindustrie. Dabei sind transdisziplinäre Kooperationen sehr willkommen. Ein Ausweis über bisherige Forschungstätigkeit ist von Vorteil.

Kandidatinnen und Kandidaten sollen neben profundem Fachwissen im Bereich der komplexen Automatisierungstechnik ein Verständnis der Thermodynamik oder Elektrotechnik und der Entropie vorweisen. Sie verfügen über ein abgeschlossenes Hochschulstudium, in der Regel über ein Doktorat sowie über Erfahrung in der Projektierung und Realisierung von Bauten hoher Qualität. Didaktische Motivation und Kompetenz werden vorausgesetzt.
Neugier und Experimentierfreudigkeit sind für diese Tätigkeit ebenso unabdingbar wie Engagement für die Weiterentwicklung der Disziplin und des Departements Architektur.

Assistenzprofessuren dienen der Förderung des wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchses. Sie werden auf vier Jahre besetzt; eine Verlängerung um weitere zwei Jahre ist möglich.

Assistant Professorship in Sustainable Building Technologies

The Department of Architecture of ETH Zurich (www.arch.ethz.ch) invites applications for an Assistant Professorship in "Sustainable Building Technologies", which is to be filled for the spring semester 2010. 

Based on the latest findings in the field of sustainable building technologies, the new assistant professor will teach theoretical foundations as well as methodological knowledge, and specialist information within the bachelor 's and master's degrees of architecture. Teaching focuses for example on system viewing of the building services engineering, the linking of components (materials, health aspects, security), the integration of fluxes of different nature (energy, water, waste, etc.) as well as on the integration of building services engineering into the planning process and the construction phase. The candidate is expected to make a great commitment to the linking of design and special studies and to contributing to in the doctoral studies program. He or she is expected to teach undergraduate level courses (German or English) and graduate level courses (English).

Research duties encompass the further development of the entire field. Research is inspired by the responsibilities of the architect, by constructing theory, and by the stage of development of the constructing technology. One research focus is on the lowEx-theory as well as on the implementation of the existing knowledge of peripheral low-Ex systems. Further important fields are the optimization of the operating of technical facilities through novel systems, the constructive practical experience level as well as the development of architectural strategies, considering the ever more complex standards of the constructing industry. In this process, transdisciplinary cooperation is very welcome. A performance record of previous research work is an advantage.

Along with a profound expert knowledge in the field of complex automation technology, candidates are expected to have an understanding for thermodynamics or electro technology and for entropy. In addition to a completed university degree as well as experience in project planning and realization of constructions of high quality, the successful candidate usually possesses a doctoral degree. Didactical motivation and competence are a prerequisite. 
Equally important are a certain curiosity and eagerness to experiment are as well as a firm commitment to the further development of the discipline and the Department of Architecture of ETH Zurich.

This assistant professorship has been established to promote the careers of younger scientists. Initial appointment is for four years, with the possibility of renewal for an additional two-year period.
