Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren

Am Montag Nachmittag hat eine sogenannte Phishing Mail verschiedene Personen
hier an der ETH erreicht:

Titel der Mail: "Important: Email Account Verification Update!!!
Ungefährer Zeitpunkt: 04. Mai 2009; 15:40

Diese Mail stammt NICHT von den Informatikdiensten der ETH Zürich. In der
Mail wird der Adressat aufgefordert, wegen Erreichung seiner Mailquota auf
einer vorgegebenen Webseite mit Usernamen und Passwort einzuloggen, um so
die Schliessung der Mailbox zu verhindern. Wir konnten leider auch Fälle
feststellen, bei denen bereits der Besuch dieser Webseite es dem externen
Angreifer erlaubt hat, vollständige Kontrolle über die jeweilige Mailbox zu
übernehmen (drive-by infection). Die Mailbox wird anschliessend für das
versenden von Spammails missbraucht.

Falls Sie diese Webseite besucht haben, möchten wir Sie bitten, UMGEHEND ihr
Mailpasswort zu ändern. Wenden Sie sich an Ihren IT-Support, um Ihren
Computer nach Viren überprüfen zu lassen.

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

Last Monday afternoon, various members of the ETH received a so-called
'Phishing' e-mail message.

Message subject was: "Important: Email Account Verification Update!!!"
Message received time (approximate): 04. May 2009; 15:40

This message was NOT sent by the Informatikdienste of the  ETH Zürich. The
message claimed that the recipient had reached his/her mail quota and
requested that the recipient log into a particular website with their
username and password.

We have observed that even a VISIT to the website can expose your computer
to a "drive-by" infection, even if you did not provide your username and
password. The mailboxes of people who did provide their username and
password were then used to relay spam.

If you visited this website, please change your mail password IMMEDIATELY
and contact your IT-Support person to have your computer checked for
viruses.
