Professor of Applied Mathematics

The Department of Mathematics (www.math.ethz.ch) at ETH Zürich invites applications for a faculty position in applied mathematics. The new professor should have made substantial contributions to mathematical modeling and/or efficient numerical simulation in engineering and sciences, which have received wide international recognition. A strong algorithmic and computational component in the mathematical research in areas such as multiscale numerical methods and mathematical models, structure preserving algorithms for evolution problems, numerics of stochastic ordinary and partial differential equations, PDE constrained optimization or new regularization techniques, and advanced numerical methods for inverse and ill-posed problems, is desirable.

The successful candidate should have demonstrated proficiency in conducting pioneering projects in application areas of mathematics and will contribute to the teaching of mathematics for students of mathematics, engineering as well as natural sciences on all levels. He or she will be expected to teach undergraduate level courses (German and English) and graduate level courses (English). The new professor will be a member of the Seminar for Applied Mathematics, an institute in the Department of Mathematics.

Please submit your application together with a curriculum vitae, a list of publications, the names of at least three referees, and a short overview of your research interests to the President of ETH Zurich, Prof. Dr. Ralph Eichler, Raemistrasse 101, 8092 Zurich, Switzerland, no later than December 15, 2009. With a view toward increasing the number of female professors, ETH Zurich specifically encourages female candidates to apply.
