The Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering (www.mavt.ethz.ch<http://www.mavt.ethz.ch>) at ETH Zurich invites applications for the above-mentioned position. The goal of the professorship is to establish an outstanding, interdisciplinary research program on material aspects in manufacturing processes. A strong focus should be placed on the development of computational material models on different scales as well as on methods for process optimization both of which are closely coupled to real industrial processes.
Prospective candidates should not only provide an outstanding research profile but also industrial experience in the field of mass-production. The candidate should be familiar with the latest computational and experimental methods and tools. He or she should have an outstanding international reputation in at least one manufacturing process and/or in material sciences and/or structural mechanics. The candidate should be able to apply the computational methods to develop innovative manufacturing processes in a systematical manner. They should have a clear vision of the future of innovative materials in production and production systems, including all aspects of manufacturing. Additional prerequisites are a strong motivation and commitment to cooperation with industry, and to undergraduate and graduate student education in the field of manufacturing including project based learning. The professorship will be embedded in the Department's undergraduate and graduate program in Mechanical and Process Engineering and join the different Master programs. The professor will be expected to teach undergraduate level courses (German or English) and graduate level courses (English).
