Professur für Informatik (Medientechnologie)

Im Departement Informatik (www.inf.ethz.ch<http://www.inf.ethz.ch>) der ETH Zürich ist eine Professur für Informatik im Bereich Medientechnologie zu besetzen.

Die Professur ist in ein dynamisches Umfeld erstklassiger internationaler Forschung und Lehre in der Informatik an der ETH Zürich eingebettet und bietet grosses Potenzial für eine Zusammenarbeit mit bestehenden Forschungsgruppen in den Gebieten Machine Learning, Graphics, Vision, Security und Systems. Von der neuen Professur wird der Aufbau und die Führung einer Forschungsgruppe im Departement Informatik sowie die Übernahme einer aktiven Rolle bei der Etablierung eines Media Technology Centers an der ETH Zürich erwartet. Das Zentrum beabsichtigt die Förderung von Forschung und Innovation in der Medientechnologie in enger Zusammenarbeit mit Partnern aus den grossen Medien-, Verlags- und Fernsehhäusern der Schweiz. Zugleich bieten sich Anknüpfungspunkte an bestehende strategische Initiativen im Bereich der Data Science an der ETH Zürich und innerhalb der Schweiz.

Bewerberinnen und Bewerber sollen über eine erstklassige, international ausgewiesene Forschungskompetenz in ausgewählten Bereichen der Informatik mit Anwendungen im Bereich Media und Publishing verfügen (z.B. machine learning, artificial intelligence, data science, visual computing). Erfolgreiche Kandidaturen haben Erfahrung in Gebieten wie Social Media Analytics, User Profiling und Sentiment Analysis, Text und Natural Language Processing, Semantic Analysis, Story Understanding, Metadata Extraction, Virtual und Augmented Reality, und/oder Video Processing. Die neue Professorin bzw. der neue Professor betreut Masterstudierende und hält Vorlesungen im Bachelorstudiengang (in Deutsch oder Englisch) sowie im Masterstudiengang (in Englisch) im Bereich der Informatik bzw. Data Science.

Die zu besetzende Position ist als ordentliche Professur vorgesehen, allerdings können exzellente Kandidatinnen und Kandidaten für eine Assistenzprofessur (tenure track) berücksichtigt werden.

Professor of Computer Science (Media Technology)

The Department of Computer Science (www.inf.ethz.ch<http://www.inf.ethz.ch>) at ETH Zurich invites applications for a professorship in Computer Science in the area of Media Technology.

The professorship is embedded in a vibrant research and teaching community in Computer Science at ETH Zurich with a high potential for close collaboration with existing faculty in machine learning, graphics, vision, security, and systems. The future professor is expected to build-up and lead a research group in the Department of Computer Science and to take an active role in the establishment of a Media Technology Center at ETH Zurich. The center aims at driving research and technological innovation in media technology in close collaboration with partners from industry including top Swiss media, publishing, and television houses. The position is further expected to complement on existing strategic initiatives in Data Science at ETH Zurich and within Switzerland.

Candidates should have an excellent record of internationally recognized research, which demonstrates a strong link to other areas of computer science (machine learning, artificial intelligence, data science, visual computing) with applications in media and publishing. Examples for the computer science expertise of the successful candidate include, but are not limited to social media analytics, profiling and sentiment analysis, text and natural language understanding, semantic analysis, story understanding, metadata extraction, virtual and augmented realities, and video processing. The new professor is expected to supervise graduate students, to teach undergraduate level courses (German or English) as well as graduate level courses (English) in Computer and Data Science.

The expectation is to fill the position with a tenured full professor, but excellent applications at the (tenure track) assistant professor level will also be considered.
