Professor of Architecture and Care

The Department of Architecture (www.arch.ethz.ch<http://www.arch.ethz.ch>) at ETH Zurich invites applications for the above-mentioned position. The professorship is established within the framework of the ETH Rehabilitation Initiative and the Competence Centre for Rehabilitation Engineering and Science of ETH Zurich (RESC) (resc.ethz.ch) and is located at the Institute of Design and Architecture (IEA) (www.iea.arch.ethz.ch).

The new professor is responsible for running a design studio, giving lectures and developing research in the field of architecture and care. She/he addresses a holistic, integrative design approach with respect to accessibility, inclusion, prevention, therapy, rehabilitation, psychology, etc. which goes beyond the design of health-care buildings. In her/his research and teaching, the new professor will interact with specialists from health and care, and particularly with the ETH Rehabilitation Initiative and the Department of Health Science and Technology at ETH Zurich (www.hest.ethz.ch). One of the aims is the transfer of knowledge by education and training of architects and through different forms of interaction with public and private partners, policymakers and the general public.

The candidate shall be an experienced professional and an internationally renowned figure. She or he must have a substantial architectural oeuvre to her/his credit and should hold a significant position in current architectural debates. Additional qualifications usually include completed university studies, experience in teaching and research, as well as competence in construction technology and planning and realisation of high-quality buildings. It is expected that the successful candidate will have a strong interest in research activities within the care discourse and in the constant further development of teaching and educational models. Additional qualifications include competence in leading a group of staff and the commitment to the development of the Department of Architecture beyond the boundaries of the specialty itself. The language of instruction should be German or English.
