The workshop «Bias in teaching and learning» takes place at the university of Zurich on Tuesday 5 September 2023, 2-5pm. Since there are a few places left, the workshop is now open to participants from outside UZH, too.


Workshop description:

In this workshop, we shine a light on bias in teaching and learning. This begins with curriculum design and materials that universities use to inform and guide students and potential students, and plays a role in course materials, teaching styles, assessment formats and student evaluations. The workshop also goes beyond these formal aspects of third-level teaching and learning by addressing how to ensure that everyone feels they belong in the classroom, lab space, and fieldwork settings. The workshop introduces general research and literature on bias and then applies this body of knowledge to different equality grounds (such as gender, ethnicity, LGBTI, etc.), as covered in the UZH Diversity Policy.
