Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) of Tissue Damage and Repair

The Department of Biology (www.biol.ethz.ch <https://biol.ethz.ch/en/> ) at
ETH Zurich invites applications for the above-mentioned position.

The assistant professorship is expected to develop a world-leading research
program in tissue damage and repair with a focus on mechanistic cellular and
molecular studies. The successful candidate should integrate a variety of
experimental approaches to gain insight into the mechanisms underlying the
repair of injured tissues after various types of insults.

Topics/approaches may include analysis of (i) the heterogeneity of
injured/healing tissues and the corresponding healing processes, (ii) the
interaction of different resident and invading immune cell types, (iii) the
signalling events that drive regeneration versus repair, (iv) the role of
cell-matrix interactions in repair, (v) the influence of environment and
stress factors (including mechanical factors, infection, toxins, UV
irradiation) on the healing response, (vi) genetic and epigenetic mechanisms
driving the response of tissues to injury, (vii) the role of the microbiome
in the control of tissue repair and regeneration, (viii) the development of
innovative approaches and technologies for the analysis of tissue
repair/regeneration (e.g. advanced in vivo imaging) and the improvement of
the repair process based on biological/biomechanical information. Candidates
with an interest in translating fundamental understandings into potential
therapeutic applications are also encouraged to apply.

At the assistant professor level, commitment to teaching and the ability to
lead a research group are expected. The new assistant professor will engage
and contribute to the molecular health sciences teaching programme at the
undergraduate and graduate levels (teaching may be in German or English).
Assistant professorships have been established to promote the careers of
young scientists. ETH Zurich implements a tenure track system equivalent to
that of other top international universities.

ETH Zurich is an equal opportunity and family-friendly employer, values
diversity, and is responsive to the needs of dual-career couples.

Please apply online: www.facultyaffairs.ethz.ch

Applications should include a curriculum vitae, a list of publications, a
statement of future research and teaching interests, a description of the
leadership philosophy, a description of the three most important
achievements, and a certificate of the highest degree. The letter of
application should be addressed to the President of ETH Zurich, Prof. Dr.
Joël Mesot. The closing date for applications is 15 May 2024.
