[Oberon] How does Oberon talk with Linux/ppp ?

I'm pleasantly surprised that linux Oberon 2.4.3 fetches http,
when the dialup uses the linux ppp.
Often very satisfactorily.

It's not clear to me how/why the linux ppp '?socket?' communicates
with Oberon, when one would expect the N-O ppp only to connect.

I was not able to similarly connect 'mail' & 'news'.
I'd like to be able to also do 'mail' & 'news' via the linux ppp.
