The gadget based or document based interface for the mailer
in Native Oberon works beautifully. It can be used as well
in NO running under an emulator. In the Oberon subsystem
of UnixOberon or in NO on an emulator, the mailer can send
to exim running on the localhost. That exim can send to
another node using any facility needed. There is no lack
of security. Similarly mail can be retrieved directly
by POP or via the localhost which can run fetchmail. You
might encounter a bug or two such as described in
http://carnot.yi.org/OberonUsage.html#Mail and these little
problems are easily solved.

In UnixAos the working directory can be on a flash storage
card which can be plugged into any desktop or laptop and
most other computers. Plug the card and open the mailer.
Your messages are there when offline. No need for IMAP or
other complications. Set "Maximum message size" to 1 MB
or so to avoid bother from large messages sent in ignorance
or maliciousness. Periodically check the mailbox with the
browser to read or delete those.

For email, can you imagine anything better? I can't. Not
until we have direct neurological networking.

In principle, document interpretation can be as efficient
as message handling but capabilities haven't been implemented.
Anyone who wants to help has many projects to choose from.
Tables, SVG and audio to name a few. Otherwise Firefox or
similar.

Regards, ... Peter E.
