Yes. ETHO must be able to read/write EXTERNAL files; otherwise it's
just another showroom vehicle. The LNO tradition has been weak on this
facility; eg. AFAIR if you have one running [and forgotten in some workspace]
when you want to launch another you fail, for 'unknown' reasons.
