[Oberon] Oberon .Def-inition files

Hi,

I'd love to ask about definition files, as I am now studying compiler
and RISC chapters. I also briefly read through revised Oberon Language
book.

It seems definition files are not needed in Oberon, as they were used by
Modula-2, .DEF along with .MOD

Yet in Oberon V4 archive for Ceres-2, I can see a number of .DEFs
(Display, Kernel, Math ..), I believe this is because these modules were
coded in Assembly.

Now with FPGA (Oberon V5) everything is coded in Oberon Language MOD
files. DEFs are not needed.

What use is nowadays for definition files, is it only for documentation
purposes, application libraries?

I also read somewhere about Browser and Watson tools, that can produce
and also work with definition files.

Many thanks.
