OK, fair.

FreeBSD is these days held in a single massive Git repo, I believe.

But Linux is famously built by hundreds of different teams, each doing
their own thing. As someone once famously said, "it's not a single
piece of software, it's about 3000 totally different pieces of
software flying in close formation!"
