[Oberon] Grammar & language convention.

has this sentence. 
Oberon is used as a workstation OS in the course in System Construction at the ETHZ.

In North American English the article would be omitted. 
Oberon is used as a workstation OS in the course in System Construction at ETHZ.

A question of grammar may be involved but I'm not a grammarian. Which 
form is preferable in Zurich?
