Assistenzprofessur für Progressive Building Technologies

Am Departement Architektur (www.arch.ethz.ch<http://www.arch.ethz.ch>) der ETH Zürich ist oben genannte Position zu besetzen. Die neue Assistenzprofessur ist angesiedelt am Institut für Technologie in der Architektur (ITA) und eingebettet in den Nationalen Forschungsschwerpunkt (NFS) „Digitale Fabrikation – Innovative Bauprozesse in der Architektur“.

Schwerpunkte der Assistenzprofessur sind digitale Entwurfs- und Fabrikationsprozesse mit Fokus auf additiven Konstruktionsprinzipien, maschinelle Vorfertigung in roboterbasierten Anwendungen und deren Integration im allgemeinen architektonischen Planungs- und Bauprozess. Dazu gehört die bauliche Umsetzung mittels fortschrittlichen Fertigungsverfahren sowie die Entwicklung innovativer Konstruktionsprinzipien und dazugehöriger Materialsysteme im architektonischen Massstab. Interdisziplinäre Ansätze und Kooperationen sind sehr willkommen. Ein Nachweis der bisherigen Forschungstätigkeit ist von Vorteil. Im Rahmen der Lehre vermittelt die Assistenzprofessur theoretische Grundlagen, methodische Kenntnisse und fachspezifisches Wissen, basierend auf neuesten Erkenntnissen auf dem Gebiet der digitalen Vorfabrikation. Erwartet wird eine starke Mitwirkung im Doktoratsstudium.

Kandidatinnen und Kandidaten sollen neben profundem Fachwissen im Bereich digitaler
Entwurfs- und Fabrikationsprozesse ein substantielles Verständnis der Robotik oder maschineller Fertigung und Konstruktionsweisen der Vorfabrikation vorweisen. Sie verfügen über ein abgeschlossenes Hochschulstudium, in der Regel über ein Doktorat sowie über Erfahrung in der Projektierung und Realisierung von Bauten in hoher Qualität. Didaktische Motivation und Kompetenz werden vorausgesetzt. Neugier und Experimentierfreudigkeit sind  für diese Tätigkeit ebenso unabdingbar wie Engagement für die Weiterentwicklung der Disziplin und des Departements Architektur.

Assistenzprofessuren dienen der Karriereförderung junger Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler. Eine Erstberufung dauert vier Jahre mit der Möglichkeit einer zusätzlichen zweijährigen Verlängerung.

Assistant Professor of Progressive Building Technologies

The Department of Architecture (www.arch.ethz.ch<http://www.arch.ethz.ch>) at ETH Zurich invites applications for the above position. The new position is at the Institute of Technology in Architecture (ITA) and embedded in the National Centre of Competence in Research (NCCR) "Digital Fabrication – Innovative Building Processes in Architecture".

The assistant professorship focuses on digital design and fabrication processes, with an emphasis on additive construction principles, machine prefabrication using robotic systems and their integration in general architectural planning and construction processes. This includes the implementation using progressive fabrication technologies and the development of innovative construction methods and their respective material systems on a full architectural scale. Interdisciplinary approaches and cooperative projects are particularly welcome. Proof of previous research activities is advantageous. As a part of his or her teaching responsibilities, the assistant professor will teach the theoretical foundations, method skills, and subject-specific knowledge based on the most up-to-date findings in the area of digital prefabrication. The assistant professor is expected to actively participate in the doctoral studies course.

In addition to profound professional knowledge of digital design and fabrication processes, candidates should also display significant understanding of robotics or the machine fabrication and construction methods of prefabrication. They must have a university degree (typically a doctorate) and have experience in the design and realisation of high-quality buildings. The will and ability to teach are a prerequisite. Curiosity and a willingness to experiment are as indispensable in this position as is commitment to the further development of the discipline and the Department of Architecture. The new professor will be expected to teach undergraduate level courses (mainly German) and graduate level courses (English).

This assistant professorship has been established to promote the careers of younger scientists. The initial appointment is for four years with the possibility of renewal for an additional two-year period.
