Assistant Professor of Tumor Heterogeneity

The Department of Biology (www.biol.ethz.ch<http://www.biol.ethz.ch>) at ETH Zurich invites applications for an assistant professor position in the area of tumor heterogeneity and therapeutic applications.

The successful candidate is expected to integrate a broad spectrum of experimental and computational approaches to understand the basis of tumor heterogeneity in driving solid and/or hematologic cancers, define how heterogeneity arises and is maintained and shaped by distinct cell types/factors in the microenvironment. As part of her/his research program the successful candidate may also device novel therapeutic concepts in the context of cancer formation, evolution and drug resistance, including cellular therapies. Experimental approaches are expected to integrate a variety of methods such as single-cell genomics, lineage tracing and fate-mapping techniques as well as establishment of genetically-engineered murine and human tumor models through genome editing.

At the assistant professor level, commitment to teaching and the ability to lead a research group are expected. The new professor will engage and contribute to teaching of this key aspect of life/health sciences in the 'Biology', 'Health Sciences and Technology' and the new 'Medicine BSc' curricula. Applicants must have a Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree and have demonstrated excellent qualifications in education and research. We seek candidates who embrace and reflect diversity in the broadest sense.

Assistant professorships have been established to promote the careers of younger scientists. The initial appointment is for four years with the possibility of renewal for a three-year period.
