I might still misunderstand your arrangement 
but these are my thoughts since the message 
on December 18.

A Linux GUI must exist before Oberon is running.  
When the Oberon VNC client is started, does it 
merely show a copy of the Linux GUI?  Two copies 
of a GUI on one display does not strike me as 
helpful.
