this sentence.

"(* Remarks: 1. Text streams consists of sequence of characters (type 
Fonts.Char) and and non-character objects (in different colors, 
fonts, and vertical offsets)."

What exactly is meant?  Only one font used in a Text defines 
characters?  Any other font defines non-characters?  A font is a 
font.  What makes one font special compared to others?
