Recent Developments:
She figures: DG RTD has just released She Figures 2003, a unique
compilation of key data which presents the latest figures on the
participation of women in scientific education and employment. She Figures
2003 presents descriptive statistics and indicators for the Member States
and the Associated Countries as well as explanatory texts and
methodological notes.
She Figures 2003 can be downloaded in PDF format from the Women and
Science Statistics web pages at:

Women in Industrial Research (WIR): The WIR conference in Berlin has been
very successful with over 350 participants from more than 40 countries.
Andrew Gould, CEO of Schlumberger, presented the CEO-Position Paper with
five key actions, companies are ready to implement. The CEOs of Airbus, Air
Liquide, EADS, Hewlett Packard, Rolls Royce, Schlumberger and Siemens have
already signed it.

Perspectives:
Gender mainstreaming in FP 6: calls for tender
Calls for tender will be published in November 2003 in order to undertake
studies to monitor the gender mainstreaming of the Sixth Framework
Programme. Further information can be requested to

Conference on mainstreaming gender equality in the ERA, 3 December, Rome
Organised by the University of Rome III in the context of the Italian
Presidency of the EU, the conference will address 3 main topics:
- producing gender equality in science and measuring inequalities
- promoting new competencies through gender mainstreaming
- womens in science visibility : a challenge

FP6 Evaluators
At the start of FP5 there were 15% women in the experts database. This had
increased to 18% at the end of FP5. There are now 25% women in the FP6
database, we are clearly progressing. However, we still need more women in
this database. If you were an evaluator in FP5, you must re-apply. The
procedure is simple. You will be offered the possibility to migrate your
details to the new system. If you were not an evaluator in FP5, please
consider becoming an evaluator in FP6. Details can be found at
