Professur für Kunst- und Architekturgeschichte

Am Departement Architektur (www.arch.ethz.ch<http://www.arch.ethz.ch>) der ETH Zürich ist oben genannte Position zu besetzen.

Die Professur vermittelt theoretische Grundlagen und führt in die grossen Themen der Kunst- und Architekturgeschichte des Mittelalters und der Neuzeit ein. Sie vertritt das Fachgebiet Kunst- und Architekturgeschichte umfassend und auf höchstem wissenschaftlichen Niveau und sorgt dafür, dass die Studierenden nicht nur Kenntnis der wichtigsten architekturgeschichtlichen Verläufe erwerben, sondern darüber hinaus mit Denkweisen und Methoden der Geisteswissenschaften vertraut sind.

Die neue Professorin oder der neue Professor betreut ein Grundlagenfach im Bachelor-Studium. Im Master-Studiengang gewinnen fachwissenschaftliche Inhalte sowie spezifische Forschungsanliegen an Gewicht, wobei die Relevanz historischer Themen für aktuelle Fragestellungen der Architektur stets neu herauszuarbeiten ist. Von besonderer Bedeutung ist eine enge Zusammenarbeit mit den bestehenden Professuren am Institut für Geschichte und Theorie der Architektur (gta) und Institut für Denkmalpflege und Bauforschung (IDB). Der Entwurf mit integrierten Disziplinen erfordert als spezifisches Lehrgefäss Interesse und Bereitschaft zur Kooperation mit Entwurfsprofessuren. In der Forschung sind substantielle Beiträge zur Architektur der Neuzeit erwünscht. Der Forschungsausweis soll nach Möglichkeit auch Aspekte der älteren wie auch der jüngeren Architekturgeschichte, der Architekturtheorie und der benachbarten Kulturwissenschaften integrieren. Engagement im Bereich der Nachwuchsförderung, insbesondere in der Gewinnung und Betreuung von Doktorierenden wird vorausgesetzt. Erwünscht ist darüber hinaus eine verantwortliche Beteiligung am MAS in Geschichte und Theorie der Architektur.

Kandidatinnen und Kandidaten verfügen über ein breit ausgelegtes Forschungsprofil und weisen eine hohe akademische Qualifikation nach. Erwartet werden wissenschaftliche Publikationen von internationalem Gewicht sowie breite Erfahrung in universitärer Lehre und in der Betreuung von Doktorierenden und Forscherteams. Von Vorteil sind Fähigkeiten in der Vermittlung wissenschaftlicher Fragen an ein ausserwissenschaftliches Publikum.

Professor of History of Art and Architecture

The Department of Architecture (www.arch.ethz.ch<http://www.arch.ethz.ch>) at ETH Zurich invites applications for the above-mentioned position.

The Chair of History of Art and Architecture provides teaching of the theoretical fundamentals and an introduction into the major themes of the medieval and modern art and architectural history. It comprehensively covers the field history of art and architecture at the highest academic level, ensuring that students attain knowledge of the most important aspects of architectural history as well as familiarity with the mindsets and methodologies of the humanities.

The new professor will teach a basic course in the bachelor programme. In the master programme, there will be a closer focus on scholarly contents and specific research objectives, while the relevance of historical subjects for current issues must always be kept in focus. Close collaboration with the existing chairs at the Institute for the History and Theory of Architecture (gta) and the Institute of Historic Building Research and Conservation (IDB) is of particular importance. Design coupled with integrated disciplines as a specific body of knowledge requires interest and readiness to cooperate with the chairs of architectural design. Substantial contributions in the area of the architecture of the modern era are explicitly desired. If possible, candidates' research record should also include aspects of both older and more recent architectural history, architectural theory, and the neighbouring field of cultural studies. The successful applicant is expected to actively participate in nurturing younger generations of scholars and, in particular, to recruit and supervise doctoral candidates, and should ideally become involved in the MAS History and Theory of Architecture in a responsible capacity.

Candidates should have a wide-ranging research background and the highest academic credentials and are expected to have published academic papers of international importance. Broad experience in university teaching and the supervision of doctoral candidates and research teams is expected. Also advantageous is competence in communicating academic issues to a non-specialist audience. The new professor will be expected to teach undergraduate level courses (mainly German) and graduate level courses (English).
