Im Departement Architektur (www.arch.ethz.ch <http://www.arch.ethz.ch> ) der
ETH Zürich ist die oben genannte Position zu besetzen. Die Professur ist dem
Institut für Landschaft und Urbane Studien (LUS) (www.lus.arch.ethz.ch
<http://www.lus.arch.ethz.ch> ) zugeordnet, welches Teil des Netzwerks Stadt
und Landschaft (NSL) (www.nsl.ethz.ch <http://www.nsl.ethz.ch> ) ist. 

Die neue Professorin/der neue Professor betreut Grundlagenfächer im 1. und
2. Semester des Bachelor-Studiengangs und begleitet weitere
Lehrveranstaltungen im Bachelor- und Master-Studiengang Architektur (inkl.
Master-Arbeit). Sie oder er vermittelt ein grundlegendes Verständnis für die
gesellschaftlichen Bedingungen und Auswirkungen des Bauens und der
natürlichen Umwelt, die neusten sozialwissenschaftlichen Ansätze in der
Stadt- und Wohnforschung und einen Überblick über die globalen
Entwicklungen. Die neue Professorin bzw. der neue Professor betreut
Doktorierende, führt eine Lehr- und Forschungsgruppe und kooperiert in Lehre
(inkl. Entwurfskurse) und Forschung mit Professuren des Instituts für
Landschaft und Urbane Studien (LUS), des gesamten Departements und mit
Professuren anderer Departemente. In der Forschung orientiert sich die
Professur am neusten Stand der Wissenschaft auf den Gebieten Soziologie und
Stadtforschung. Die Forschungsaktivitäten sind eng verbunden mit dem
Netzwerk Stadt und Landschaft (NSL) und dem Future Cities Laboratory (FCL)
(www.fcl.ethz.ch <http://www.fcl.ethz.ch> ).

Erfolgreiche Bewerberinnen und Bewerber sind international renommierte
Persönlichkeiten, verfügen über eine eigenständige Position innerhalb der
Stadtforschung und über exzellentes theoretisches und empirisches
sozialwissenschaftliches Wissen zu räumlichen Prozessen in verschiedenen
Massstäben. Weitere Qualifikationen sind eine abgeschlossene Promotion sowie
einschlägige exzellente Erfahrung in Forschung und Lehre (Bachelor- und
Master-Stufe). Weiter erwartet werden die Fähigkeit zur Führung einer Gruppe
von Mitarbeitenden und das Engagement für die Entwicklung des Departements
über das eigene Fach hinaus. Der Unterricht am Departement Architektur
findet in Deutsch oder Englisch statt.

Professor of Sociology and Urban Studies

at ETH Zurich invites applications for the above-mentioned position. The
professorship is located at the Institute of Landscape and Urban Studies
(LUS) (www.lus.arch.ethz.ch <http://www.lus.arch.ethz.ch> ), which is part
of the Network City and Landscape (NSL) (www.nsl.ethz.ch
<http://www.nsl.ethz.ch> ). 

The new professor offers core courses for students in the 1st and 2nd
semester of the Bachelor’s degree programme and co-advises further courses
in the Bachelor’s and in the Master’s degree programme (incl. master’s
theses). She or he imparts to students the fundamental understanding of
social conditions and impacts of the built and natural environment,
contemporary sociological approaches in urban- and housing research, and an
overview of global developments. The new professor will supervise doctoral
students, leadhis/her teaching and research group and collaborate in
teaching (incl. design studios) and research with chairs at the Institute of
Landscape and Urban Studies as well as within the Department of Architecture
and throughout ETH. Successful candidates are expected to propose and
develop a state-of-the-art research agenda in the field of sociology and
urban studies. The research activities are closely connected to the Network
City and Landscape (NSL) and the Future Cities Laboratory (FCL)
(www.fcl.ethz.ch <http://www.fcl.ethz.ch> ). 

The successful candidates shall be internationally renowned figures and hold
a significant standing in critical sociological and urban studies debates.
She or he must have a substantial theoretical and empiric sociological
expertise of spatial processes on different scales. Additional
qualifications include a doctoral degree and excellent experience, both in
research and teaching in the academic context (Bachelor and Master).
Responsible leadership of a group of employees and the commitment to
actively support the development of the Department of Architecture beyond
the boundaries of the own field of expertise are expected. The language of
instruction should be German and/or English.
