Professor or Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) of Materials Modeling

The Department of Materials (www.mat.ethz.ch <http://www.mat.ethz.ch> ) at
ETH Zurich invites applications for the above-mentioned position.

Successful candidates must have demonstrated research excellence in the
development of methods for theory- or computer-based materials modeling
applied to solve materials problems at the cutting edge of research. The
demonstration of an outstanding research track record and a clear vision for
future developments, preferably including the application of machine
learning or artificial intelligence in materials science, are essential.

Experience with static simulation methods (such as Monte Carlo) or dynamic
simulations (atomistic or molecular) are desirable. This is to be combined
with machine learning or coarse-graining techniques, possibly together with
theoretical analysis to complement the simulations. The successful
candidate’s research is expected to bridge time and length scales, from
atomistic to macroscopic, to describe the corresponding materials properties
and phenomena. Materials modeling in any branch of science or engineering
will be considered. The new assistant professor (tenure track) or professor
must be an effective and enthusiastic educator who will develop and teach
courses in the curricula of Materials Science and Engineering and
Interdisciplinary Engineering at the Bachelor’s and Master’s levels. In
general, at ETH Zurich undergraduate level courses are taught in German or
English and graduate level courses are taught in English.

Assistant professorships have been established to promote the careers of
younger scientists. ETH Zurich implements a tenure track system equivalent
to that of other top international universities.

ETH Zurich is an equal opportunity and family-friendly employer, values
diversity, and is responsive to the needs of dual-career couples.

Please apply online at: www.facultyaffairs.ethz.ch

Applications should include a curriculum vitae, a list of publications, a
statement of future research and teaching interests, a description of the
leadership philosophy, a description of the three most important
achievements, and a certificate of the highest degree. The application
letter should be addressed to the President of ETH Zurich, Prof. Dr. Joël
Mesot. The closing date for applications is 30 June 2024.
