Chris,
cg> So you have an example of 'authentication prior to PAP' ?
No. The proprietary interface to FirstClass
is completely separate from the Internet
interface. Each interface has its own
modems. The Internet interface is provided
by a Vicom router which is strictly
conformant to RFCs as far as I have seen.
I've never seen nor read of authentication
prior to PAP. Just trying to understand
your problem with authentication.
cg> Which the 2001 version of n-o didn't 'handle' ?
The only serious problem I had with PPP
was simply that Oberon PPP did not know
to negotiate DNS addresses. The details
are explained in my PPP notes.
cg> How did you 'fix' it ?
The only effective way to understand a
problem with PPP is to trace every detail
in the log and study pertinent RFCs.
Misunderstanding one detail can put you
on the wrong track.
cg> Is it good to just fix your own problem and allow n-o to remain
non-compliant ?
Absolutely not. I have been working on
Oberon PPP and still intend to fix DNS
negotiation if nobody else does.
Regards, Peter E.
