Yes, it is not new. I looked into it 4 or 5 years ago and was not really 
enthusiastic. I'm not sure whether I changed, or obc. But at the moment 
obc s a nice compiler for me. It produces a byte code that is 
relatively fast and portable among the two major operating systems of 
the era.

There seems to be a garbage collector included now.

ACK. the Amsterdam Compiler Kit. The default compiler for Minix. With 
front ends for Modula-2, C, Pascal and many more. And many back ends as 
well.
