40 years ago I hade a Gazelle bicycle with a three speed hub
30 years ago I had a TI Raleigh with 2x5 speeds derailleur
20 years ago I had a Giant Trooper with 3 x 7 derailleur
10 years ago I still had the Giant
Now I have a Trek with 3 x 9 Shimano Tiagra derailleur
I'm planning to buy a bicycle either with a 11 or 14 speed hub, 18 speed
pinion gear or 3 x 9 derailleur, not sure yet
The times have changed. Technology has changed. Evolved. Bicycles are
still my main means of transport. Yes, the 3 speed Sturmey Archer was
the best (zero maintenance) and the 3 x 9 derailleur transmissions need
some maintenance. Yet I do not want to get back to the 3 speed hub.
And, due to my experiences with a Shimano 8 speed hub, I am reluctant
to switch to ANY internally geared hub at all.
Same with the web. I use my SeraMonkey browser all the times. I have
installed AdBlock and something to control scripts. Cookies are set
to "Ask each time" and I periodically wipe out browsing history.
Why go back to the "3 speed hub" Links whereas I can use a
better "Shimano Tiagra 3 x 9" Seamonkey browser? With the add ons -I-
control what's on screen. Zero ads. Paranoid cookie behaviour.
The times they are a-changing. And I use technology to harness the bad
parts of evolution.
