As Bernhard points out: the xmas13 edition of the book is just an
ongoing project. A sneak preview.
Instead of complaining about missing sections and missing FPGA codes, it
would be more of a challenge to rewrite the lowlevel part of the source
in (sorry) gcc or Python so that the new Oberon could be ported to
proven hardware.
On a 64 bit machine, two integer datatypes will suffice: CHAR (8 bit)
and INTEGER (64 bit). Same for (LONG)REAL. Modern processors are so
complex that there is no need for intermediate datatypes.
Mr Niemann (also on this list) is working on an Oberon to C translator.
Perhaps he would be pleased to get some support.
Prof Wirth is showing us his framework. We should build on that, not
copy it.
A good start would be to port Native Oberon to gcc but the sources of NO
are very hard to get.
