Similar batteries are available with various dimensions.  

Likely the Pipistrello or OberonStation can be powered by one of 
these modular batteries.  With an appropriate housing and screen, 
a reasonably compact portable machine could be built.  Rapid 
obsolescence might even be evaded by accomodating a range of 
battery sizes.

Making a nice job of the housing will require a significant time 
investment.  Regretably, I can not volunteer for that.
