Linux has its merits in the areas it was supposed to serve. If you identify these areas and stick to them, then you receive the value. The problems stem from using Linux to accomplish tasks which this tool was not supposed to accomplish. Like for example fast deterministic response.

Are you not mistaking lack of applications for operating system flaws? The system may be perfect, but it is not surprising that a niche operating system lacks a business suite. Try doing business work under one of the real time OS's meant for process control. Same problem.

Probably more to try new concepts than to correct deficiencies.

Derogatory statements are better avoided.

I myself hardly ever use a mobile phone, smart or otherwise. My observations of other users indicate that a smart phone is mostly a tool for gathering information from the wireless. For example, recently a group of friends was looking for a particular restaurant where we were supposed to meet. I would ask a local. My friends rather used a smart phone's GPS to navigate to the restaurant which was around the corner. I cannot deny convenience of being able to find the place.

>From that point of view upgrading the tool makes sense, if the new tool offers more efficient information gathering. Most people perceive enough value to justify the upgrade. I still prefer to ask a live person, or to patiently wait till my friend finds the way using his smart phone.

Just my 0.02.
