Heartily agreed!

A variation is for someone knowledgeable in the field to start a 
wikibook or add a control chapter to the extant wikibook.  That would 
allow incorporation of new information and ongoing revision.  Work 
doesn't drop anonymously into an abyss.  Every contribution is 
recorded in the page history.
