Dear Chris,

Thank you for reaching out. I am one of the Internet Draft authors and I can help answering your questions.

We are currently introducing SCION to the IETF community, with the goal of documenting the existing protocol specification, and pave the way for future standardization work. We have been discussing SCION it in the past couple of panrg meetings<https://datatracker.ietf.org/rg/panrg/meetings/>. We also recently submitted draft-rustignoli-panrg-scion-components<https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-rustignoli-panrg-scion-components/> to give a more detailed overview of SCION components and their mutual relations. We will continue doing work there in the upcoming months.

Unfortunately we don't have a blog post about this. It is actually a great idea, we might consider writing something about this in the future. Are you actually referring to the governance model built into SCION Isolation Domains?
We would like to first document the protocol specification of what is currently deployed, keeping the current ISD governance model intact.
When it comes to the specification and open source governance, this will continue being community-based, with some support and coordination provided by the SCION Association<https://www.scion.org> (including standardization).

Best,
Nicola

Hi Chris

Nice to hear from you! Hope everything is well.

Corine or Nicola can best respond to your questions.

We have been working on green routing, but so far only this paper is published:
https://netsec.ethz.ch/publications/papers/2022_iscc_scion_energy.pdf
We hope to soon get a paper ready that we can also post on arXiv. We are also thinking about soon adding CO2 information to paths, initially in the SCIONLab network. This will be exciting to play with :-)
Please keep in touch, so as soon as these features are implemented we can see how to best utilize them.

With all the best wishes,
  Adrian

P.S. I now host a podcast focussed around Green Software Engineering with the Green Software foundation, called Environment Variables. We talk a bit about SCION in the most recent episode, From Carbon Aware to Carbon Intelligent:

I figure it might interest some folks here, and if there’s any new research or work in the domain of green networking with SCION you can point me to, I’d love to read about it. I saw Seyedali Tabaeiaghdaei’s talk at SCION Day earlier this year, but I know of much beyond that.
