[ETH Diversity] Conference: New Work – New Problems? Gender Perspectives on the Transformation of Work

We would like to draw your attention to the conference of the Gender Studies Committee of the Swiss Sociological Association and the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts on the topic:

The scientific conference aims to discuss the transformation of work and its consequences for gender norms, the resulting division of labour, and the balance of paid and unpaid work.

During the conference, several issues will be addressed: How can we better understand the ambivalent potential of the digitalization and workplace innovations for gender justice? What is the (gendered) impact of Covid-19 and related public health measures on precarity and work-life balance? To what extent does "remote work" give women in the Global South access to highly qualified and better paid jobs? How should innovative and alternative social security models look like to contribute to an equivalent relationship between employment and unpaid care work?

Our program includes two keynotes by Prof. Dr. Lena Hipp (Berlin Social Science Center WZB), and Prof. Dr. Karin Schwiter, (University of Zurich), eight workshop on topics such as: Remote work & work-life-conflicts; The pandemic & organizational changes towards a new work culture; Global perspectives on new work; New work & precarity; as well as perspectives on new models and solutions towards gender justice. About 40 scholars from all over Switzerland and the globe will present their most recent research.

Ziel der wissenschaftlichen Tagung ist es, den Wandel von Arbeit und seine Folgen für die Geschlechternormen, die daraus resultierende Arbeitsteilung und die Balance von bezahlter und unbezahlter Arbeit zu diskutieren.

Das Programm umfasst zwei Keynotes von Prof. Dr. Lena Hipp, Wissenschaftszentrum Berlin für Sozialforschung, und Prof. Dr. Karin Schwiter, Universität Zürich, acht Workshops zu Themen wie: Remote work & Work-Life-Konflikte; Coronapandemie & organisationale Veränderungen hin zu einer neuen Arbeitskultur; Globale Perspektiven auf new work; new work & Prekarität; sowie Einblicke in neue Modelle und Lösungsansätze für Geschlechtergerechtigkeit. Rund 40 Wissenschaftler:innen aus der ganzen Schweiz und der ganzen Welt werden ihre neuesten Forschungsergebnisse vorstellen.

La conférence scientifique a pour but de discuter de la transformation du travail et de ses conséquences sur les normes de genre, la division du travail qui en résulte, et l'équilibre entre le travail rémunéré et le travail non rémunéré.

Le programme comprend deux conférences plénières par les professeures Lena Hipp (Wissenschaftszentrum Berlin für Sozialforschung) et Karin Schwiter (Université de Zurich), huit ateliers sur des sujets tels que : Le travail à distance et la superposition du privé et du  professionnel; La pandémie et les changements organisationnels vers une nouvelle culture du travail ; Les perspectives globales sur les nouvelles formes d’organisation du travail ; Le new work et la précarité ; ainsi que des perspectives sur les nouveaux modèles sociaux et solidaires. Une quarantaine de chercheuses et chercheurs de toute la Suisse et du monde entier présenteront leurs recherches les plus récentes.
