Similar to a problem on a 486 machine at home.
Yes, seems to be a problem with some FAT 
filesystems.

If you have time, please have a look at the 
source.  There is provision for significant 
kernel logging output but I was unable to 
see any evidence in the kernel log.  Any tips?
